Forbes Names College Station, TX one of the Best Places to Retire in 2021

Every year, Forbes compares cities from all over America to decide which ones are the best for retirees. Factors considered include taxes, housing costs, climate, healthcare, and more. In 2021, College Station, Texas ranked in the top 25 of this list, becoming a strong contender for people all over the country who are looking to retire.  

College Station is located 85 miles northwest of Houston, and is a drivable distance from Houston, Austin, and Dallas. With Texas A&M University being the heart of the town, there is a buzzing spirit and energy among its residents. Although the city has a high population of young college students, it is still recommended for retirees due to many different reasons.  

According to Forbes, some of the top reasons College Sation is suggested for retirees are cost of living and affordability. The article states that the median home price is $260,000, which is 7% below the national average. There is no state income tax or estate tax, and the city has a good economy. Also, the overall cost of living is 3% below the national average. These things are critical to someone looking for a place to retire.  

Furthermore, College Station has ample access to healthcare and all other necessities. With multiple major hospitals including Baylor Scott & White and CHI St. Joseph, retirees never have to wonder about their safety or accessibility to healthcare. There are ample pharmacies, dentists, and all other healthcare providers that could be needed. 

As far as lifestyle, College Station has much to offer to keep retirees busy and entertained. Texas A&M football games in the fall bring a sense of community and create an electric atmosphere for everyone to enjoy. There are also over 60 parks with hiking trails, pavilions, basketball courts, and more. Growing areas such as Century Square and South College Station are bringing in new restaurants, shops, and activities that keep residents engaged.  

College Station is a quickly growing and developing area. New 55+ active-adult communities such as Lakeside at Millican Reserve creating an opportunity for retirees to enjoy College Station while also having their own peaceful space.
