Visit the Kerrville Folk Festival

It’s finally summer, and we’re all looking for the best way to spend it. A day by the pool is great, but maybe you’re looking for a way to mix things up. Well, we’ve got good news for you. The 50th Annual Kerrville Folk Festival is happening now, and it’s full of music, camping, and activities that thousands of people enjoy every year.

Located 9 miles south of downtown Kerrville, the Kerrville Folk Festival has something for everyone to enjoy. The event is often described as “magical,” and festival goers welcome everyone, old and new. With so many activities and options to choose from throughout the day, it can be hard to know where to start. That’s why we’ve broken down some of our favorite parts of the festival, so that you can explore one of Kerrville’s oldest and most amazing events just like a local.

The music scene

As the longest continually running music festival in North America, you can bet that the Kerrville Folk Festival doesn’t only have a way to watch the music, but a way to be a part of it, too. With a large array of artists, the main stage stays busy holding performances and bringing everyone together. Every day of the festival brings new performances from nationally known and local artists. Over the years, iconic artists such as Willie Nelson and Lyle Lovett have been among the festival’s many performers, solidifying its place in music history.

In addition to the concerts, there is a wide array of musical workshops and activities for everyone to get involved. Guitar, harmonica, ukulele, and songwriting workshops are all offered at various times throughout the festival. Some workshops are geared toward more advanced artists, but the guitar workshop is one that even beginners can join. No matter what your skill level is, KFF promises to grow your skills and make you a better musician all around.

If you don’t want to attend a workshop but still want to show off your skills, you can attend the Ballad Tree Song Sharing, where audience members of the festival can play their original songs for anyone who wants to hear. If you prefer to sit back and listen, that’s fine too. The whole point of the festival is to experience the music in whatever way you please, and with so many options, you’re sure to do so.

Get active

If the music scene isn’t for you, you can take part in one of the many outdoor activities and workshops that will get you moving. Take a canoe trip down the Guadalupe River, go on a Hill Country bike ride, take a hike to learn about the area, or stretch and relax at a yoga class. Whatever level you’re at, there’s sure to be an outdoor activity that suits your needs. The best part about these activities? Music is still involved. Even when you’re floating on the river, there will be a guitar close by to keep the spirit of the festival going.

Stay at the campgrounds

It’s said that the magic of the festival is felt most at the campgrounds. Whether you prefer a tent or a camper, you can experience the campgrounds, make friends, and hear music at all hours. Campground access is included when you buy a ticket, so you don’t have to deal with extra fees to camp out. Simply bring what you need, and enjoy the space!

The Kerrville Folk Festival is one of Kerrville’s oldest and most important traditions. The heart of the festival can be felt through everyone there, and extends to the city of Kerrville itself. The festival is going on now, and will end Sunday, June 12th, 2022. Make sure to visit the festival website to plan the perfect visit for you!
